Wind Cave @ Gunung Mulu National Park

Wind Cave always grouped together with Clearwater cave in one showcave tour package as they are nearby to each other and can be reached by same jetty. Visitors are 1st cruised up the Melinau river in longboat followed by a long ramp and a few stairs to Cave of the Winds. Windy cave with unique stalagmites, stalactites and limestone shawls. Small cave where it only took about 45min for the tour.

Pinnacles @ Gunung Mulu National Park

The Pinnacle climb is a high risk and extreme activity. The journey started with 10km boat ride on Melinau River followed by 9km walking trail to Camp 5 which is a basic forest shelter for overnight. The steep gradient is 2.4km ascending to Pinnacle and it was challenging. Camp 5 is completed with equipped kitchen that provides gas and utensils for cooking, drinking water also refillable here. Must visit place for natural lover. No cell phone reception is available.

Deer Cave @ Gunung Mulu National Park

1 of the world’s largest cave passages, home to 3mil bats. About 3km from Mulu National Park HQ, took us 1 hr flat walk on raised plank walks to the Bat observatory. Wonderful limestone shawls, stalagmites and stalactites and ancient riverbed. Once you reach the Garden of Eden which is 800m inside Deer Cave, you can enjoy the unique showerhead formations of Adam and Eve’s showers spouting columns of water 30m to the riverbed.Bat exodus which could start any time from 5PM to 6:30PM.

Clearwater Cave @ Gunung Mulu National Park

The Clearwater Cave System is believed to be the largest interconnected cave system in the world by volume and the 8th longest cave in the world at 222 km. The system lies mainly under the western margins of Gunung Api between the Melinau Gorge and Cave of the Winds. You can either trek along a 4 km nature trail or traveled by long boat along Melinau River. Impressive stalactites, stalagmites, flow rocks, helitites and rock corals, some which are illuminated in the ‘King’s” Room.

Zhi Kei Wanton Mee 枝记云吞面@Kopitiam Thong Kee

One of my favorite food at Kopitiam Thong Kee, bentong’s style wanton noddle. Springy wanton noddle in dark sauce with generous portion of ‘char siew’ and wanton. Yummy noddle which only cost RM5 per serving. Crowded during weekend. Quick service. Bad thing is scarce of parking space around that area.

Orens Cake House @ Raub

Bakery shop with varieties choices of breads, buns and pastries. The breads and buns are freshly baked daily. They can custom made the birthday cake based on client’s request. Reasonable prices with friendly staff.

Batu Bungan Penan Settlement

Batu Bungan is a Penan village located along the mid stream of Melinau River. It can be reached in about 30min by longboat from Mulu National Park or accessed by road linked from the Park. Tourists can observe the tribe lifestyle and purchase handicrafts on display as souvenir. Nowadays, Penans still live in long houses but in modern construction and concrete building. Each family with own leeping quarters but they share a long hall as living room.

Benarat Lodge @ Mulu

Lodge that nestled within lush greenery and it is located about 1.8km away from Mulu National Park. Simple budget hostel with simplistic décor and basic facilities. Power supply only available from 6pm-1am daily. Poor phone signal at the compound. Nice food but a bit expensive. No drinking water is provided, they sell 1.5-liter of mineral water at RM5. Free airport shuttle service. Friendly staff and 24hour front desk assistance is available.

59 Street 五十九街咖啡馆 @ Miri

Food court with varieties of Sarawak’s local delicacies. Busy food court that crowded with folks for supper at night. The food stall owner will approach you with menu once you are seated. Recommended their barbeque chicken feet, awesome taste with spices and it will be favorite for spicy lover. Their pan mee also taste good, handmade noddle with generous topping with anchovies and mince pork. Food in reasonable prices.
